Winneconne Safe Routes to School Program

INTRODUCTION

The Winneconne Community School District is located west of the Fox Cities and Oshkosh Areas. The district covers approximately 103 square miles including the Village of Winneconne, the Town of Winchester, Town of Winneconne within Winnebago County.  Winneconne Community School District is compromised of two Elementary Schools (Kindergarten-5th grade), one Middle School (6th-8th grade), and one High School (9th -12th grade).

The Winneconne Area Safe Routes to School (SRTS) committee was formed in the fall of 2006. The committee is compromised of representatives from a variety of entities including the Winneconne Community School District, WisDOT, Winnebago County, law enforcement, representative from the health profession, parents, and representatives from local units of government within the Winneconne Community School District. 

In the winter of 2007, the Winneconne SRTS task force pursued a WisDOT SRTS planning grant. The Winneconne Area SRTS Program was awarded a WisDOT planning grant in the summer of 2007.  The SRTS Planning process began in the fall of 2007 with the assistance of the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (ECWRPC).
