Regional Focus Groups
Marquette and Waushara Counties
The Waushara / Marquette focus group brought together a
broad range of interests that resulted in a thought-provoking discussion
of the issues. The group included county and local government
representatives, interested citizens, recreation, planning, and zoning
professionals, realtors, youth workers, school district administrators,
lake association interests, and farmers, as well as those working with
the young and the elderly. The participation rate for this group was
74%.
This group had a detailed discussion on the issues facing the community
/ region. Prior to allocating points to issues, similar topics were
classified into sub categories. This process is reflected in the tables
below. This group felt that the most important issues facing their
communities/ East Central region are environmental preservation –
especially water quality, job development and growth, and the “brain
drain”.
A summary of the issues and opportunities identified by category, the
points allocated to each issue/opportunity, and the top issue and
opportunity identified by each group is presented below.
