AUGUST 26th OPEN HOUSE

Over 60 persons attended the Open House highlighting the development of the Gilbert Paper Site and touring East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission's new facility.  A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony was held with guests of honor, Menasha's new Mayor, Donald Merkes and project developer Randy Stadtmueller. Displays and information about the new building, the Gilbert Redevelopment project, and the Commission were shown.

Some fast facts about the Gilbert Paper Site:

  • The 12-Acre Gilbert Paper Site was acquired by The P.J.C. Group, Inc. in 2004.
  • In 2007, the 1-acre site where the Gilbert building now stands was sold to Randy Stadtmueller of Gilbert Development, LLC.
  • With the completion of the Gilbert Building, the total improvements to the 12 acre property have already reached $2 million ($1.6 million of this was attributed to the Gilbert Building).
  • Demolition of the original paper mill building was initiated in 2007 and continues through 2009 with state brownfield grant assistance pending.
  • The 'Boilerhouse' building has already been prepared for an 'adaptive re-use' project.
  • Future plans for the site include the following amenities:
    • A public parkway and trail along the river,
    • Improvements to the 'Duck Pond',
    • and the creation of a 'Whitewater Kayaking Park' through the site using the old canal system (which provided cooling water for the mill).
  • The Menasha Lock and Dam is connected to the site and is the primary dam which controls water levels on Lake Winnebago.

Some fast facts about the Gilbert Building and East Central's office space:

  • Contains three tenant spaces comprising approximately 12,000 square feet.
  • East Central's offices contain 6,300 square feet of space - an increase of 600 square feet from the previous office space.
  • An atrium ceiling with barrel dormers and 'roofless' offices create a well-lit daytime environment which save on artificial lighting needs.
  • Solid maple trim, real plaster walls, and exterior dentil molding illustrate the attention to quality and detail in construction.
  • The front reception area floor is made from natural cork....A renewable resource!
  • Heating for the building is provided using 'radiant-floor' heating system. Over 1 mile of piping is encase in the concrete floor to provide even heating.
  • Air conditioning is provided by an energy efficient 'small-diameter high velocity forced air system.
  • The 310 square foot conference room is the focal point of East Central's expansion.
  • Room exists to accommodate one additional staff person should it be necessary in the future.
  • Technology improvements made along with the move include a new phone/voicemail system, an off-hours active security system, and a dedicated IT/server room.
